HEART plays a pivotal role in shaping policy discussions through its contribution to the flagship report of the Global Environmental Outlook 6 (GEO-6) and its engagement with the UN Environmental Program (UNEP). This valuable report, a collaborative effort of experts and academics worldwide, serves as a guiding resource for policy makers seeking to understand how individual countries can benefit from its insights. The GEO-6 Regional report for Africa underscores the pivotal role of natural resources, an often overlooked aspect. It reveals that Africa’s rich natural capital has immense potential to uplift its people’s livelihoods. Effective management of these resources can pave the way for sustainable livelihoods for our youth and the entire continent. By nurturing this natural capital through careful stewardship and embracing responsible practices and good governance, we lay the foundation for equitable wealth creation, social advancement, and ecological resilience across Africa.
Good Governance
HEART recognizes how COVID-19 laid bare how good governance structures are a vital tool in navigating various crises, including health-related ones. So, we espouse for a good governance system that is characterized by accountability and efficiency and is premised on institutional structures and leadership aimed at promoting transformative socioeconomic development – including as the GEO-6 report puts it, the “promotion of sustainable natural resource governance.” In sum, governance that is central to development policy and responsive to the needs of citizens.
Wealth Creation
HEART’s cornerstone mission revolves around promoting wealth creation by nurturing entrepreneurship and providing robust capacity-building programs.
